PETZL – Bindi Compact Headlamp

This product was recommended by Jack Kelly from Sharpshaft

Best Hiking Head Torch – Expert Recommendations

The Bindi head torch is a sensational purchase. It is as powerful as a normal torch (200 lumens), despite its small size and light weight (35 grams!). This means you can see as much as 200 feet ahead of you at any time. Not to mention that you can’t feel the weight of it attached to your head (great for generally outdoor tasks, running, bed-time reading!) I get up to about an hour of use from it on the highest setting, and then it’s really easy to recharge as it’s done by micro-USB cable, so no batteries (I hate using batteries as it’s terrible for the environment and feels like a horrendous additional cost). It also charges quickly, so you can get enough charge to go outside and complete quick tasks in just a couple of minutes. If you use the lowest light setting then you can get two days out of it before it turns off! If you’re going to use the torch for running then the three settings are very useful depending on what you need. Normally the lowest setting is strong enough to light your way without blinding oncoming people. If running on roads or a little foggy then the medium setting is strong enough to warn oncoming traffic of your presence. The Bindi is more expensive than most head torches out there, but you really do get what you pay for – excellent quality that lasts. Fully recommend.

PETZEL Actik Core

This product was recommended by Julien Heron from Outdoors Generations

Best Hiking Head Torch – Expert Recommendations

If you are looking for a hiking head torch it is hard to beat Petzel’s Actik. It offers easy to use controls, water-resistance, and one of the brightest beams on the market (450 lm). When night falls you will enjoy the option of a red light, perfect for protecting your night vision. Plus, when your trip lasts longer than expected you will find the option to use either batteries or the rechargeable Core power bank perfect for keeping you (and your torch) going. The only hiking torch that offers more is the Actik Core. The Actik Core offers all the features of the original Actik plus some. By using AAA batteries, the weight is reduced and run time increased. Plus, the Core power bank is included – no need to purchase this favorite accessory separately.

Energizer LED Headlamp

This product was recommended by Shaun Taylor from Moriti Safaris

Best Hiking Head Torch – Expert Recommendations

This headlamp is one of those products that kill the idea that things need to be expensive to be good. I have had one of these with me now for 15 years and it has never given me any issues. I use it at least once a month for a few days while camping in the African bush and it just keeps going and going and it is pretty good with battery life as well. I have never even looked at another type of head torch since buying this. I can thoroughly recommend it.

Nitecore HC90 Rechargeable XM-L2 LED Headlamp

This product was recommended by Ajmal Dar from Moccasin Guru

Best Hiking Head Torch – Expert Recommendations

The Nitecore HC90 is a comfortable and solid feeling headlamp. Its wide-angle reflector spreads the light better than any headlamp I’ve used before. The ability to slide from bright to dim is a great feature. The built-in USB makes charging easy and convenient.

PETZL – REACTIK+ Headlamp

This product was recommended by Melanie Musson from AutoInsuranceEZ

Best Hiking Head Torch – Expert Recommendations

The elastic strap splits in the back so that it hugs the contours of your head better than a single strap, helping it stay in place when hiking. The strap is also washable, so you don’t have to worry about it getting smelly. Its light technology adjusts the brightness of the lamp to the surroundings, which helps it go longer between charging. The MyPetzl app lets you connect via bluetooth to the head torch and monitor the battery life and adjust the lighting for your activity.
